"absence"
"absence"
People vanish—suddenly, quietly.
Those we once met every day fade beyond reach.
This piece contemplates absence:
movements born from what is missing,
chains of gestures,
spaces shaped by what is no longer there.
Can absence itself become a performance?
Exploring “Absence” — A Theme Unique to the Solo Form
In dance — a physical art form — the presence of the body and its surrounding context is usually taken for granted. This work challenges that assumption by contemplating its opposite: absence. It takes a meta-approach, exploring whether the phenomenon of absence itself can be realized as a dance work.
Using a number of chairs that seem too many for a single performer, the piece constructs space through a chain of self-choreographed movements — a dialogue between what is present and what has vanished.
